Northwestern Mutual - Puget Sound Honored with Community Impact Award
Northwestern Mutual – Puget Sound has been honored with the 2012 Community Impact Award for its work with the Ben and Catherine Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment. The Northwestern Mutual Foundation is honoring the office’s outstanding volunteer efforts by awarding the medical center with a $50,000 grant on behalf of the Puget Sound office.
The Ben and Catherine Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment is the first multidisciplinary treatment and research center in the Pacific Northwest dedicated solely to the treatment of brain tumors. The medical center will use the grant to help fund new brain cancer research, raise awareness and gain financial support through its participation in and financial support of the Seattle Brain Cancer Walk.
Northwestern Mutual’s Seattle office began supporting cancer research in 2011 with its participation in the Seattle Brain Cancer Walk, raising more than $32,000 dollars for the cause. After their initial success, the team committed to raising money for new, innovative treatments for brain cancer.
The Community Impact Award was presented at Northwestern Mutual’s 2012 Western Regional Meeting, held in San Diego, California, in early March. The award annually recognizes Northwestern Mutual offices that demonstrate exemplary volunteerism in their own communities.

NORDSTROM "BEAT THE BRIDGE" 2009

Sylvia, Chuck and Olivia Zittel at "Beat the Bridge" 2009.
On May 17, 2009, Northwestern Mutual - Puget Sound once again participated in the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s “Beat the Bridge”. Each year, 10,000 individuals, companies and families gather together at the University of Washington, Husky Stadium to face two challenges: to find a cure for diabetes and to Beat the Bridge. While the task may seem daunting to some, with some persistence we're sure to meet our goals!
Our office is proud to be a part of this incredible event each year in an effort to raise money to help find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes. This year, we had over 30 participants that raised a total of $1,718.00 helping this year's "Beat the Bridge" event raise over $1,000,000.
A special "Thank You" to Kelly Romano who coordinates our office involvement in this event each year. Your hard work is very appreciated!

A Letter from Carl Middleton III, ChFC, CFP
CONGRATULATIONS TO KIM HOGLE!
On Saturday, June 28th, I was treated to a wonderful experience! I had the privilege of participating in the first CRANIUM CRUSADE! For those of you who had a scheduling conflict, you missed a proud moment in the life of our agency.
Over the years, I have been involved as a volunteer in community and professional causes. Every time my efforts have been a part of an existing effort or cause. What makes the Cranium Crusade so special is that it didn't exist before Kim!
The event was born out of Kim's life experience and her friendship with Ruth Ross. I remember the day that Kim sat down in my office explaining what she had in mind. My thought at the time was that she had no idea of the immensity of the task that was in front of her.
While that was probably true, Kim attacked the challenge enthusiastically. the community of medical providers and patient families rallied around her energy. the culmination of her efforts was on display on Saturday the 28th. The event was a fantastic success. There were over 500 walkers, a great accomplishment for a first time event! The pre-event donations before counting the entry fees or silent auction, totaled over $82,000. Incredibly, the logistics came off without a hitch. As a participant, you were treated to a smooth enjoyable experience.
Please join me in congratulating Kim for the success of this meaningful event. We are righteously proud to call her friend and associate. I look forward to making next year's event a focus for the charitable energies of the agency.
Proudly,
Carl Middleton
